Mas foi pela sele\u00e7\u00e3o brasileira que ela fez hist\u00f3ria. \u201cMistura de G\u00e9rson, Rivelino e Pel\u00e9. Eis a nossa Nilza.\u201d destacou um jornal em 1971, durante o Mundial do Brasil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A atleta defendeu a sele\u00e7\u00e3o brasileira de basquete por mais de uma d\u00e9cada e costumava chegar aos treinos sempre carregada de livros. Ela se dividia entre os jogos e os estudos. Formou-se em pedagogia, psicologia e educa\u00e7\u00e3o f\u00edsica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O come\u00e7o no esporte, na verdade, foi no v\u00f4lei, lembra o irm\u00e3o, El\u00e9rcio. Mas, como Nilza tinha 1,82 m de altura, logo acabou integrada \u00e0 turma do basquete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Na modalidade, um dos momentos mais emocionantes de sua carreira foi no gin\u00e1sio do Ibirapuera lotado, em partida contra o Jap\u00e3o, pelo Campeonato Mundial de 71. \u201cEst\u00e1vamos perdendo e fiz a cesta da vit\u00f3ria no \u00faltimo segundo, fechando em 77 a 76. Um dos meus maiores orgulhos foi ter ajudado o Brasil naquela partida\u201d, lembrou em entrevista concedida \u00e0 Confedera\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira de Basquete (CBB), em 2006. Gra\u00e7as \u00e0 cesta de Nilza, o Brasil terminou aquela competi\u00e7\u00e3o atr\u00e1s apenas da Tchecoslov\u00e1quia e da Uni\u00e3o Sovi\u00e9tica, imbat\u00edvel \u00e0 \u00e9poca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nilza trabalhou at\u00e9 o fim da vida como professora universit\u00e1ria, reunindo duas de suas grandes paix\u00f5es: a Educa\u00e7\u00e3o F\u00edsica e a Pedagogia.
